External Fixation of Tarso-Metatarsus Fracture in a Lesser Adjutant stork (Leptoptilos javanicus)

Abstract

A Lesser Adjutant Stork bird was presented with compound fracture of tarso-metatarsus region which was confirmed by C-arm examination. After routine dressing it was applied with external splintage using bamboo plate and mocropore and allowed rest for 21 days with requisite post-operative medication. The bird recovered well and exhibited normal walking after removal of the splint.
