The study highlights the importance of educating inseminators on estrus detection and adoption of accurate semen handling and Artificial Insemination technique as well as rural smallholder dairy farmers on appropriate use of heat abatement devices and improved estrus detection. After adopting of these techniques by both dairy farmers and inseminators, the improvement in first service conception rate was observed in cattle and buffalo as 79.7 and 71% respectively without any seasonal variation. The results suggest that educating rural smallholder dairy farmers and inseminators for adoption of improved fertility management practices is vital for better reproductive performance of rural livestock in India.
