Abstract

An Intra vaginal progesterone insert on 14th day post insemination was evaluated for its effects on conception rate and also return to estrus in non pregnant cows which were reported as repeat breeders. Pregnancy rates to pre-treatment insemination were 25% and 5% in treated and control groups respectively. 73.33% of non pregnant cows in treated group and only 36.84% of non pregnant cows in control group showed synchronized return to estrus between 18th to 28thdays of initial insemination. Conception rates to first insemination on resynchronized estrus following progestrone insert removal in treatment group was 36.36%, while in control group only 28.5% cows conceived to insemination on estrus between 18th to 28th days. The progestrone inserts improved conception rate in repeat breeder cows, to supplementation on day 14th to 21th of initial insemination. Also, progestrone inserts enhanced resynchronization return to estrus in non pregnant cows and improved overall pregnancy rate than control cows.
