Abstract

Five dogs were diagnosed with Vitamin A deficency with an overall prevalence of 4.8%. Clinical examination revealed scales, dry and rough hair coat, malodorous skin, easily epilated hairs and local alopecia on ventral and lateral chest and abdomen. The Hb, PCV, TEC were significantly decreased in affected dogs. TLC was non significantly increased with significant increase in monocytes. Trace element evaluation revealed significant low levels of zinc and iron. The dogs showed marked improvement in clinical, hematological and trace element parameters after Vitamin A supplementation.
