Abstract

A clinical case study was carried out to isolate, identify and treat ringworm infection in Gir calves with topical application of 10% Copper sulphate and burnt engine oil, respectively. Twenty five calves were identified to have ringworm infection based on cultural identification on Sabaroud Dextrose Agar (SDA). Most of skin lesions were alopecia and/or circumscribed grayish-white crusty raised lesions on head, neck, dewlap and chest area. Burnt engine oil and 10% copper sulphate were applied topically on lesion in two groups consisting of ten calves each. Five calves were kept as control and applied with distilled water. Complete recovery was recorded after three applications of burnt engine oil, while four applications were required for 10% Copper sulphate solution to elicit complete recovery in second group. Burnt engine oil proved to be effective agent for topical application in curing ring worm infection in bovines.
