Therapeutic Management of Diabetes mellitus with Dermatological affection in a bitch

Abstract

Type I diabetes mellitus in a Chihuahua bitch was observed with lethergy, polydipsia, polyuria, persistent hyperglycaemia, glycosuria and ketonuria along with skin infection. Diagnosis was done by history, clinical signs and symptoms and laboratory results. Fasting blood glucose and insulin were 338 mg/dl and 3.4 μU/ml respectively. Treatment was done with human (NPH) insulin, Gliclazide and Metformin and diabetic diet. After 4 month of treatment the animal was quite cured with normal fasting blood glucose level and skin condition. Regular interval blood test and diabetic diet were advised.
