Differential Diagnosis of Rabies and Ketosis in a Cow -A Conundrum

A crossbred lactating cow developed symptoms of anorexia, frothy salivation, sudden abnormal behaviour, reduced rumen motility and empty abdomen appearance. The animal on thorough physical examination was diagnosed as nervous form of ketosis and treated with intravenous fluid (dextrose and electrolytes) along with Vitamin B complex, steroids and glycerine. The animal recovered uneventfully.
