Real time B-mode trans abdominal ultrasonography was employed to evaluate the dystocic ewes and does (n=72) in order to indicate viability of fetus and to predict the prognostic value. Both 3.5 and 5 MHz transducers are useful for sonating the gravid uterus in these species. The accuracy of diagnosis was 100 percent with dead fetuses (48 out of 48) while it was 91.78% in live fetuses (19 out of 24). Disorders like stunted growth of fetus, fetal monsters, post maturity changes of placenta etc were also observed accurately. Twin pregnancies could not be detected accurately.
