Management of Dystocia due to Fetal Ascites in a Buffalo

A Murrah buffalo was presented with complaint of futile straining without delivery for many hours. The animal was bred naturally and had completed full gestation period. She was in second stage of labour for the last seven hours but could not deliver the fetus. Per vaginal examination revealed fully dilated cervix and longitudinal posterior presentation of foetus in dorso-sacral positions with extended hind limbs into vaginal passage. Dystocia was relieved by obstetrical mutation and forced extraction of ascitic dead foetus.
