An investigation was conducted to ascertain the causative organisms and effective antimicrobial drugs for treating mastitis in buffaloes. 100 samples from clinical cases of mastitis in buffaloes revealed Staphylococcus spp. (43%); Streptococcus spp. (17%); Pseudomonas spp (9%); E.coli (21%); Klebsiella spp. (3%) and mixed infection (7%). Most effective antimicrobial agent was Chloramphenicol (95%) followed by Tetracycline (92%), Gentamicin (89%), Ciprofloxacin (86%) and Enrofloxacin (80%). Resistance towards Penicillin, Ampicillin, Streptomycin and Ceftriaxone was also observed.
