External Skeletal Fixation for Long Bone Fracture Management -A Clinical Study in 12 Bovine calves

Abstract

Twelve bovine calves with compound long bone fractures were presented and clinically managed. Out of twelve calves, four were observed with tibia-fibula fractures, three in radius-ulna and five in metatarsal bones. All calves were stabilized with epoxy ESF. Routine pre-operative, operative and post-operative observations were followed as per schedule. Weight bearing after operation was noticed in eight calves. Pin tract infection was noticed in all calves, but severe pin tract infections and pin loosening were observed in four calves. Full functional weight bearing after device removal was observed in six calves and partial in other three calves. Mortality was recorded in three calves.
