Clinical Management of Babesiosis in a Dog along with Blood Transfusion

Abstract

Canine Babesiosis was diagnosed in a Doberman dog based on clinical symptoms, hemato-biochemical findings and cytological evidence of Babesia gibsoni in freshly prepared blood smears. The dog was treated with Doxycycline and adjunct therapy. The blood transfusion was done due to severe anaemic state with PCV and Hb of 10% and 2.6 g%, respectively. The dog was administered 200 ml of blood and haematological values showed marked improvement immediately after transfusion followed by recovery.
