Clinical Evaluation of Grid and Multiple Punctate Keratotomy for Management of Superficial Corneal Ulcers-A Study of 12 Dogs

Clinical studies was done on 12 dogs (10 males and 2 females) to evaluate different surgical techniques for management of superficial corneal ulceration. Animals were operated under general anaesthesia using Diazepam @ 0.5mg/kg b.wt. and Ketamine @ 5mg/kg b.wt. combination and maintained on Isoflurane inhalation anaesthesia. Animals were divided in two groups. In group I (n=6) grid keratotomy technique was used and in group II (n=6), multiple punctate keratotomy was undertaken. The animals were reviewed for surgical outcome and post-operative complications. Success rate was determined by noting the healed cornea using different surgical techniques. Post-operative complication observed was varying degree of corneal opacity in both groups but opacity was more pronounced with multiple punctate keratotomy. On whole success rate of 100% and 50% was observed in group I and II respectively on 7^th post-operative day.
