A cattle was presented with acute tympany due to ingestion of vegetables and attempt to push the beet root into the rumen. Clinical examination revealed, complete cessation of rumination, ruminal impaction, atony and distended left paralumbar fossa. Emergency rumenotomy was decided. Rumenotomy was performed under left paravertebral regional nerve block. About 30–40 kg of impacted vegetables and phytobezoars were removed manually from rumen and also from cardia. Post-operative care and wound dressing was continued for ten days. The skin sutures were removed on tenth post-operative day with recovery.
