Abstract

The present study was conducted on four buffaloes affected with traumatic pericarditis. Detailed signalment, history, clinical observations, haematological and biochemical estimations were recorded. The animals were presented with symptoms like reduced feed intake, fever, sudden drop in milk yield, brisket edema and bilateral jugular engorgement with abnormal heart sounds. Hypochloremia, hypocalcemia, hypophosphatemia and hyponatremia were evident in all animals with pericarditis. Increased peritoneal fluid quantity was observed in all animals. Potential penetrating metallic foreign bodies crossing diaphragm and pointing towards thorax, with high neutrophilia with left shift had poor prognostic value in traumatic pericarditis cases.
