Surgical management of intestinal foreign body obstruction in a dog

A dog was presented with history of vomiting and anorexia for past two days and absence of defecation for past four days. Clinical examination revealed all parameters were within the physiological limit. Contrast radiography revealed barium stasis even after twenty four hours on administration suggestive of intestinal obstruction. Mid ventral exploratory laparotomy was performed. A small piece of corn cob obstructing the intestinal tract was identified and removed by enterotomy. The animal was maintained on fluids for seventy two hours along with antibiotic therapy. The animal recovered uneventfully.
