Twenty four dogs with twenty six supracondylar femoral fractures were grouped according to fracture duration and correlated with hemato-biochemical and intra-operative observations. The total leukocyte and platelet count was significantly higher (p0.05) in dogs presented within 24 hours of fracture as compared to more than 24 hours. Neutrophilia and corresponding lymphopenia was also found to be associated with fracture duration. Marked elevated values of ALP and P and low Ca: P ratio were observed in delayed cases presented after one week as compared to early cases. Intraoperatively, fracture reduction was found difficult and therefore, excessive dissection and bone nibbling was required in delayed cases of fracture of more than one week duration. In conclusion, duration of fracture has influence on the hematobiochemical profile and intra-operative results.
