Diagnosis and Management of Concurrent Ehrlichiosis and Babesiosis in a Dog

A Rottweiler dog with concurrent infection of Ehrlichiosis and Babesiosis was reported with history of blindness, epistaxis, anorexia and tick infestation. Fever, pale mucous membrane, dilated pupil, loss of vision, dehydration enlarged lymph nodes and ecchymotic patches in superficial skin were observed. Peripheral blood smear examination revealed both morula of Ehrlichia canis in monocytes and piroplasms of Babesia canis in erythrocytes. Anaemia, elevated BUN and creatinine were observed in hemato-biochemical examination. The animal was treated with Doxycycline, Diminazene diaceturate, Imidocarb, Ivermectin and hematinics.
