Abstract

The report deals with malignant mesothelioma in an adult cow with history of reduced feed intake and gradual reduction in milk yield besides mild edematous swelling in brisket region and hind limbs. Palpation of pre-scapular lymph nodes revealed beaded consistency bilaterally. Upon per rectal examination, bead like rounded nodular structures were felt on dorsal surface of rumen and peritoneum. Thoracic radiography showed micro-nodular pattern in caudo-dorsal lung lobes. The stained smears of peritoneal fluid sediment revealed several medium to large clumps of mesothelial cells with massive hyperplasia. Based upon clinical examination, radiography and cytology, the case was diagnosed as malignant mesothelioma with metastasis in regional lymph nodes and lungs.
