Coproscopic Study to Evaluate the Prevalence of Endoparasites in Wild boars (Sus scrofa)

Abstract

Sixty four faecal samples collected from wild boars were examined by coproscopic methods for presence of endoparasites. Out of sixty four faecal samples examined, 29 (45.3 percent) were found to be positive for Ascaris suum, 20 (31.2 percent) for Oesophagostomum spp., 14 (21.8 percent) for Eimeria neodebliecki oocysts, 4 (6.25 percent) for Trichuris suis and 3 (4.6 percent) for Balantidium coli cysts. Culturing of faecal samples positive for strongyle eggs resulted in recovery of third stage larvae of Oesophagostomum dentatum. A. suum eggs were found to be predominant followed by Oesophagostomum spp. eggs and E. neodebliecki oocysts. Mixed infections of A. suum and Oesophagostomum spp. were more commonly observed in present study. The mean EPG count of strongyle eggs ranged from 100 to 1200. High endoparasitic infections observed during the study warrants implementation of effective control strategies.
