Diagnosis and Management of Pseudo-pericarditis Associated with Theileriosis in a Buffalo

Pseudo-pericarditis is a rare circulatory system disorder exhibited slight jugular engorgement and edema up to ventral abdomen. A female buffalo was presented with history of frequent pyrexia, inappetance, respiratory distress, engorgement of jugular vein, thoracic and ventral edema. Clinical examination revealed high temperature (105^oF), enlarged pre-scapular lymph nodes, pale mucus membrane and brisket edema upto pubic region. Complete blood count and lymph node biopsy revealed condensed form of theileria in RBCs and schizonts in lymphocyte. Ultrasonography revealed clear fluid outside the heart. The animal was treated with parentral Oxytetracycline, Meloxicam and Frusemide and oral supportive hematinics for five days. The appetite of animal came to normal within a week. The brisket edema and jugular cardings were reduced over a period of ten days and buffalo showed complete recovery from all clinical signs.
