INTAS POLIVET

A total of forty three (43) dogs showing clinical signs of hepatic insufficiency were subjected to clinico-hematobiochemical, ultrasonographical and radiological examination. Eighteen (18) dogs were found to be suffering from hepatic disorders and six (6) clinically healthy dogs constituted as control group. The dogs suffering from liver disorders manifested diarrhea, constipation, vomition, anorexia, polyuria, polydipsia, jaundice, ascites, dehydration, painful abdominal palpation and difference in conjunctival mucous membrane. Hemoglobin, PCV, TEC and lymphocyte levels were decreased in both acute and chronic hepatitis. TLC, neutrophils, basophil, monocyte and eosinophil levels were increased. The values of ALT, AST, ALP, bilirubin both direct and indirect, globulin, BUN and creatinine increased and values of total protein, albumin, A/G ratio, glucose and cholesterol decreased in both acute and chronic hepatitis. Ultrasonography (USG) of liver revealed hypoechoic to mixed ecogenic parenchyma. Radiological examination did not give clear diagnosis except ascites. The diseased animals required special consideration during treatment. Ultrasonography along with hematobiochemical profiles is an effective diagnostic tool for hepatic disorders in dogs.
