Comparative Evaluation of Intramedullary Pinning With and Without Cerclage Wiring in Canine Femur Fractures

Abstract

In present study, twelve (12) dogs with femur fractures were selected and grouped into Group 1 (treated with intramedullary pinning alone) and Group 2 (treated with intramedullary pinning and cerclage wiring). The lameness did not show significant difference in both groups. Moderate weight bearing from fifteenth day and complete weight bearing without any feeling of pain was observed from forty fifth day onwards. Surgical wound healed with least complications and radiographs showed complete bridging of fracture gap on forty fifth day in both groups.
