Abstract

A rabbit was brought with history of recent injury at the right tibia. Radiograph revealed an open oblique fracture of distal tibia with caudal deviation of proximal fragment. After aseptic preparation of right tibia and induction of general anaesthesia, animal was placed in right lateral recumbency. A 2 mm Steinmann pin was passed from depression at proximal extremity of tibia between cranial and medial tibial tuberosity till pin end emerges through the fractured site, now distal fragment was reduced and pin was advanced into it. Wound at the fractured site was sutured with modified figure of eight suture pattern using fishing nylon. Post-operatively, antibiotic and anti-inflammatories were given. Animal recovered uneventfully.
