Eight Kathiawari horses were anaesthetized with Romifidine-Ketamine for undertaking castration. Romifidine@ 40 μg/ kg and Ketamine 2 mg/ kg b. wt. were injected i/v and recorded induction time of 7± 1.01 minutes, duration of anaesthesia was 48±1.0 minutes and recovery at 62±1.07 minutes. Analgesia and muscle relaxation was sufficient for performing operation with smooth induction and recovery. Heart rate, respiration, temperature, hemoglobin, PCV and total protein decreased non significantly (p>0.05). BUN and creatinine increased non-significantly (p>0.05) while significant (p>0.05) increase of serum glucose and AST was recorded. Romifidine-Ketamine combination proved to be effective for castration and is suggested for other short duration operative procedures as well.
