Composite wiring and intramedullary pinning for management of compound mandibular fractures - a clinical study of seven Camels

Abstract

Bilateral mandibular fractures were recorded in seven male camels due to biting during rut season in five, while it was accidental and unknown reason in one camel each. The site of fracture was rostral to canine tooth (4), rostral to premolars (1) and one each in between 2nd and 3rd, 3rd and 5th cheek teeth. The fractures were stabilised with bilateral interdental wiring in three camels, combination of bilateral intramedullary pinning and wiring in two camel, unilateral intramedullary pinning and bilateral wiring in one camel and pinning only in one camel. Bilateral mandibular fracture in adult male camels can be well managed using composite intramedullary pinning and interdental wiring with minimum complications.
