Diagnosing foreign body syndrome and evaluating its correlation to hemato-biochemical, ferroscopy and blood trypsin inhibitor spot test -a report in Kuchchhi Camels

Abstract

485 Kuchchhi camels with digestive disorders were examined with metal detector to confirm ferrous origin metallic body in lower abdomen. Thirty (30) camels showed positive results and blood samples were collected for blood trypsin inhibitor spot test (TIST). Amongst those, 14 camels showed positive results for TIST and hemato-biochemical estimation was evaluated. Hematology revealed lower hemoglobin, erythrocytopenia, increased PCV, leukocytosis with neutrophilia and biochemical findings indicated hypoglycemia, hypoproteinemia with rise of lactate dehydrogenase, creatine kinase and aspartate aminotransferase. Laparo-rumenotomy was performed in three camel which did not responded to medical management. Use of metal detector test and TIST combined with altered hemato-biochemical values may give better understanding of traumatic reticulo-peritonitis in camels.
