Diagnosis and Management of Dermatophilosis in a Cattle

The present communication reports diagnosis and treatment of dermatophilosis in a crossbred cow. The scabs and crusts were collected and laboratory report was found positive for presence of filamentous and branching zoospores in impression smear confirming dermatophilosis. The animal was treated initially with Oxytetracycline 20 mg/kg for ten days, Chloropheniramine maleate 0.5 mg/kg for first five days, matted hairs were cut and scrubbed the affected areas with equal mixture of Sodium bicarbonate and Sodium chloride solution for fifteen days. The animal showed marked improvement after nine days of therapy. Complete clinical improvement was noticed after fifteen days of therapy with disappearance of scabs and crusts.
