Abstract

The study evaluates the efficacy of controlled release Progestrone intravaginal insert along with Prostaglandin and Gonadotrophin for anestrus management in buffaloes. Buffaloes having body condition score of 2.5 to 3.5, with post-partum period of 6–9 month and mature heifers with minimal body weight and anestrus condition confirmed by per rectal examinations were selected and divided into two groups. Group I (n=12) buffaloes were inserted with controlled released intravaginal Progestrone inserts for 7 days followed by Prostaglandin administration. Group II buffaloes (n=12) received same treatment along with Inj. GnRH @ 10 mcg IM only in respondents at the time of artificial insemination. The estrus induction response was recorded as 75.00 percent in both groups with treatment response interval as 64.4±4.44 and65.1±1.11 hours. The overall conception rate and pregnancy were 88.88 and 66.66 percent in Group II and 77.77 and 58.33 percent in Group I, respectively.
