Surgical Management of Cervical Esophageal Obstruction due to Polythene bag in a Buffalo calf

A buffalo calf was presented with recurrent regurgitation after eating or drinking. Attempts to pass stomach tube in oesophagus caudal to mid cervical region were unsuccessful. It was tentatively diagnosed as esophageal obstruction and confirmatory diagnosis was undertaken with barium meal contrast radiography. Polythene bag was removed via rumenotomy. After evacuation of ruminal contents, the foreign body a plastic bag, impacting the oesophagus was removed with the help of Allies forceps. A 1.5-meter long stomach tube was passed from the mouth to rumen for examination of any other blockade in esophagial lumen.
