Abstract

The echocardiographic values show significant breed variations and it is important to know the normal echocardiographic values for each breed of dog. The study was conducted to record the echocardiographic parameters and indices in clinically normal pug dogs. The Pug dogs included were presented for routine checkup, vaccination and deworming. The dogs were subjected to echocardiographic examination using Aloka SSD 3500 Echocardiograph. 2D, M-mode and Doppler echocardiographic assessment were carried out. Two dimensional echocardiographic parameters such as LA, AO & LA/AO values were lower than other breeds of dogs. M-mode echocardiographic parameters such as left ventricular dimensions were lower than other breeds of dogs. Fractional shortening was slightly higher when compared to similar bodyweight dogs. Mean velocity of blood flow across mitral valve, tricuspid valve, aortic valve and pulmonary valve recorded in normal healthy pugs were slightly lower than other breeds.
