Abstract

Cardiac and hepatic toxicity in a adult Great Dane envenomed by Saw Scaled Viper is reported and discussed. Investigations confirmed cardiac involvement (increased levels of cTn-I 42.263 ng/ml and CPK-MB >300 U/L with ventricular tachycardia @ 190 bpm) and hepatic (increased levels of ALT 1431.3 U/L, SAP 489.5 U/L and BUN 41.9 mg/dl) toxicity. The dog was successfully treated with polyvalent anti snake venom, antiarrhythmic drugs, tetanus toxoid, antibiotics, fluid, hepatotropic drugs, phytomenadione, steroid and vitamin B complex.
