Diagnosis of Canine Ehrlichiosis and its Therapeutic Management with Plasma Rich Platelets

Abstract

Twenty dogs were presented with clinical manifestation of epistaxis for evaluation. Clinical, hematological, biochemical and ultrasonographic examination of all dogs was undertaken. Blood smear examination revealed twelve dogs positive for E. canis infection with epistaxis, thrombocytopenia, anemia, elevated ALT and low albumin and high globulin were the common findings. Splenomegaly and hepatomegaly was evident by pain on palpation and ultrasonography. Post-mortem examination in two dogs revealed icteric condition, petechial hemorrhage, splenomegaly and hepatomegaly. Infusion of platelet rich plasma (PRP) and administration of Imidocarb dipropionate was found to be effective.
