Surgical management of dog bite wound in a calf

One month old calf was presented with complaint of dog bite wound at night. The calf was dull, depressed and not eating or drinking. Clinical examination revealed wound was too large, bleeding from the site of wound, restlessness, palpitations and intolerable pain and animal is in shock. On the basis of history and clinical sign to save the life of animal suturing were performed under local infiltration using 2 percent Lignocaine hydrochloride after antiseptic cleaning and disinfectation. Fluid therapy, antibiotic, analgesic and multivitamin therapy were given post-operatively and animal showed uneventful recovery without any complication. The post bite anti-rabies vaccination was undertaken following standard protocols.
