Immunotherapy and Surgical Treatment of Eye Cancer in Bovine

Abstract

Total 24 clinical cases of eye cancer presented at Veterinary Polyclinic, Parbhani were treated with immunotherapy and surgical intervention. Animals in group-I were treated with 0.5 % phenol saline extract and animals in group-II were treated with intralesional injection of BCG vaccine followed by subcutaneous injection of Levamisole HCl. Animals in group-III were having large or extensive ocular growth and were treated by surgical intervention.

Immunotherapy with deep intramuscular injection of 0.5 % phenol saline extract and intralesional injection of BCG vaccine followed by subcutaneous injection of levamisole hydrochloride was found effective in the treatment of eye cancer but it was palliative rather than curative. Surgical intervention was found more curative than immunotherapy but there was recurrence in 2 cases out of 8. Hence a combine therapy of surgical intervention followed by immunotherapy could be attempted for curative purpose as well as for prevention of recurrence.
