In the present study, meat based and vegetable protein based diets were fed to two different groups of growing mongrel dogs of two months age for eight weeks. The average daily DM intake, CP intake and ME intake was 64 gm/kg B.wt., 13 gm/kg B.wt. and 236.25 Kcal/kg B.wt., respectively for meat based diet and 61 gm/kg B.wt., 12 gm/kg B.wt. and 223 Kcal/kg B.wt., respectively for vegetable protein based diet. The average daily water intake was 3.43 and 4.08 ml./gm of DM intake in meat based and vegetable protein based diet, respectively. The palatability of meat based diet was slightly higher than vegetable protein based diet.
