Abstract

Radiography can be used for diagnosis of pregnancy and for evaluation of fetal development, but only during last three weeks of gestation, since the fetal skeleton become radiopaque and becomes distinct only after day 46. Radiography was carried out in 18 pregnant bitches during the period of 45 to 50 days after last mating as the fetal skeleton do not become radiopaque until this period. Calcification of fetal skull and vertebral column could be seen on radiographs at this stage. The radiography was 94.44 percent accurate in pregnancy diagnosis and 95.23 percent accurate in litter size estimation.
