Based on a paper to the National Seminar on Information/Knowledge Organization in the Humanities, 9 –11 August 2005, Bangalore.

Abstract

The paper discusses the application of natural language processing (NLP). The knowledge organization tools developed using NLP, such as WordNet, thesaurus, visual thesaurus, etc., are yet to be developed for Indian languages. Such tools in English have been tested in information retrieval by using them as an interface in the retrieval package. Keeping the advantages in view, it is highly desirable that similar tools be developed for Kannada. Some of the issues related to Unicode support are also discussed here.
