The objective of any intellectual activity is to enhance the existing body of knowledge and facilitate communication of the contents for the benefit of mankind. The networked environment offers a dynamic and powerful medium to knowledge and information seekers with tools such as search engines, portals, subject gateways and so on, for enhancing accessibility to information on the Web. Yet much remains to be done to exploit its full potential. The present paper addresses the issue of e-learning for library and information professionals and the role of libraries to take advantage of the opportunities to provide quality service to information seekers.
