Abstract

District Administration has long been the hub for government services for the masses residing in urban areas. A wide range of useful services to citizens are provided from the Deputy Commissioner (DC) offices which include control and supervision of revenue, maintenance of public order and security, license and certificates, land acquisitions, census, relief and rehabilitation, social welfare, pension matters, education and public examinations, public complaints and enquiries. By providing these services, the DC office is poised to represent the Central Government at the grassroots. Newly installed District e-Service Centre (DESC) promises to bring about qualitative changes in the service delivery at the urban centers of Bangladesh. However, the gestation period has to be over before seeing marked changes.
