This paper examines legal deposit laws in Nigeria. It discusses law and its functions. The paper also take a critical look at the National Library of Nigeria legal deposit provisions, scope and condition of materials to be deposited, penalty for non compliance, methods of collecting legal deposit materials, enforcement of legal deposit law, benefit of the law to the publishers and challenges. Suggestions are made for an improved legal deposit collection.
