Abstract

The environment where heritage sites exist is crucial for their conservation. Traditionally, the disciplines associated with heritage conservation are mostly based on physical, chemical, and biological disciplines closely related to geology, archaeology, museology, materials science and engineering. Cultural heritage involves in-depth knowledge in many fields such as natural science and technology, humanities and social sciences. Interdisciplinary research with cultural heritage and environmental conservation as the core, which can provide an opportunity to solve the intricate practical problems has now, became important. The present paper discusses the concept, implication, and current research on cultural heritage and conservation science. Examines the relationship between cultural heritage and its environment from the perspective of value recognition, communication, and cultural heritage deterioration mechanism and protection, to build an multidisciplinary system of heritage conservation with environment as the core. Posibilities offered by Informatics for conservation of cultural heritage and the environment that houses it is also discussed in detail. This work will be of interest to those engaged in talent training, scientific research, archeology, conservation, tourism managment, and development of technologies for heritage conservation.
