Abstract

This article introduces a distinctive application of Heritage Informatics within the realm of interactive online learning, specifically focusing on Second Language Acquisition (L2) as part of a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) lesson plan. Our exploration centres on the seamless integration of cultural heritage, illustrated through the Qanat of Palermo, into educational frameworks addressing English as a Second Language (ESL) and water technologies. We delve into the implementation of H5P format interactive activities on a customised Moodle platform, enhanced with immersive 360° imagery, designed to enrich ESL learning through imperative language use. By bridging cultural heritage with language acquisition and historical water technologies, this innovative approach aims to create a meaningful and contextualised educational experience. It seeks to foster a profound connection between learners and the rich cultural heritage, thereby enhancing the educational impact of historical sites and concurrently advancing language proficiency.
