Knowledge and entrepreneurship are decisive factors for sustainable development of fisheries sector, which contributes substantially for food production. The article highlights basic perspectives, tools and resources for successful information management in the fisheries sector. Discusses the unique characteristics of fisheries information and the tools used for its management and retrieval. The rapid migration of conventional information resources and the current digital environment have established complementary and unique sources extremely critical to fulfilling the information needs of the stakeholders. Provides a historical overview of fisheries information, its sub sets, stakeholders, institutions, and programmes related to India; region selected for study and in the context discusses international fisheries information systems and resources that can be shared. Suggests integration under ICAR of fisheries information resources in the country held by various agencies for the benefit of the stake holders.
