Eugene Garfield published 'A Tribute to S.R. Ranganathan, the Father of Indian Library Science' in two parts in his 'Essays of an Information Scientist' and also in the columns he wrote for 'Current Contents'. The first dealt with the life and work of Ranganthan, and second evaluated his contribution to library and information science especially on his invention of fundamental categories, ideas in classification and indexing theory. Along wih this tribute Garfield also published a short note describing Ranganathans' Colon Classfication system which is republished here.
