S.R. Ranganathan's Five Laws of Library Science have since its formation became the philosophical backbone of the discipline. In library scenario there is a shift from library materials to library users. The impact of the five laws of library science goes beyond time and space to numerous aspects of Knowledge Management. They have become a catalyst for many library movements and the force behind the information revolution, making information serve the citizen, and have acted as the guiding principles for the government to take the nation towards a knowledgeable society. In this contest the paper examines the laws in proportion to library space in research environment. Problems faced by present day libraries of higher education are the abundance of information and scarcity of knowledge, the unbalanced situation of knowledge production, hindrance to the free flow of knowledge and the alarming situation of knowledge disaster. Search for a solution requires promotion of thought process to transform the information, and the creation of an environment for balanced knowledge production. Effective solution can be achieved through the Library Space by creating an environment for enlightenment, and proper research ecology.
