Agricultural Informatics (AgI) is the application of computers and communication technologies in agriculture with innovative ideas, techniques and scientific knowledge to expand the horizons of technologies used in agriculture. Agricultural Informatics ‘is a combination of technologies, which span from devices sensing the environment from a close distance or thousands of miles in the skies to chips monitoring food systems. Along with sensors, new ways of analyzing big-data and predicting outcomes through validated simulation models and Artificial Intelligence (AI); systems are beginning to give positive impacts for farmers and the environment’. Agricultural Informatics can transform agriculture to more precisely managed fields to increase production while minimizing the environmental risk to water and air quality.
