Abstract

Poverty has various forms and connotations. Poverty means an absence of basic and minimum requirements for keeping a good standard of living by an individual. Information poverty is one among the phenomena of poverty, which may be attributed by digital divide, socio-economic and cultural backwardness, poor literacy etc. It is a state of deprivation of information basically required for the welfare or maintaining the life of an individual. This article focuses on the theoretical background of the concept ‘information poverty’, its causes, social exclusion, and type of poverties. It also discusses how information poverty can be measured in the line of economic poverty.
