Conservation of world heritage site: Naga temples in Sudan

Developed countries give due importance to conservation of heritage sites. But in developing countries the condition is verse; for they do not have resources, experience, and qualified experts to handle conservation of historical monuments by themselves. So, most developing countries have to seek help and support from international organizations and missions. The World Heritage Site, Naga taken for this study is a good example. Taking conservation of Naga site for study, this paper highlights the relevant earlier studies and discusses some critical issues like the need for involving local experts and building their capacities. The study is based on data collected by field trips to Naga world heritage site as well as interaction with the international conservation experts who involved locally. The study point out the need for providing education and awareness to the locals and identifying skilled craftsmen from them as an integral part of the multidisciplinary conservation practice.
