Quality Control and Quality Assurance Management in Water Conveyance Network for Hydro Power Development

Implementation of quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) plan poses enormous challenges to the, managers. Even small defects or flaws in any manufacturing process may result in heavy cost. Sometimes, reconstruction may also be required. In many cases, apart from loss of property, failures may lead to fatal injuries and loss of lives too. In civil construction, the quality has to be ensured as negligence may prove, to be disastrous. Good management skills are needed to complete of the facility in the first time and free, from defects. Hydropower project requires water conveyance system to harness the gravitational head between diversion structure and the generating units to produce clean energy. The water conveyance system may be either canal or open channel network or using underground tunnels and shafts. This paper highlights the basic quality assurance and quality control measures while construction of underground tunnels and pressure shafts including permanent lining.
